About the campaign
Humanity, equality and dignity for all
Adopted by 179 States in Cairo in 1994, the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) Programme of Action (PoA) recognized the linkages between population and development. The ICPD contributed to the foundations of the Sustainable Development Goals by balancing population concerns with inclusive, equitable and sustainable development. In the 20th year review, Arab countries reiterated their support for the ICPD PoA by adopting the 2013 Cairo Declaration. They agreed on dignity and equality; health; place and environmental sustainability; and governance as top priorities to accelerate progress on the ICPD commitments. The 30th anniversary of the ICPD in 2024 is an opportunity to remind the world of the critical importance of its agenda, reflect on progress made to date and identify actions to be taken to accelerate the implementation of the ICPD promise to leave no one behind.
